Accucraft May News

Welcome to our May newsletter.  This month we bring you news of our forthcoming open day and sale, our move to retailing at Pontrilas, the arrival of the L&B Manning Wardles, a preview of the new Mk1 coaches, 7/8ths” Decauvilles back again and the super new U.S. 3 Bay Hopper cars.

Accucraft Open Day & Clearance Sale – Pontrilas 16th June

Following the success of last year’s open day and sale we have decided to run one again this year with an emphasis on clearing out old stock lines to make room for new inventory.  The format will be much the same, once again at Unit 4, Long Meadow Industrial Estate. We will have factory seconds, damaged items and test samples to sell. as well as many ‘end of line’ items. This stock will be offered for sale on a ‘first come, first served’ basis without prior reservation and will include ‘open box’ locomotives, rolling stock and track components as well as sundry ‘kits of parts’ with potential for re-assembly!  As they say, “everything must go!”

We can now confirm that we will be supported by Swift Sixteen, Model Earth Design & Talisman Brass Castings and Blackcat Bridges among others.  We will be running Accucraft locomotives in 1:13.7, 1:19, 1:20.3 and 1:32 scales.  Opening times are 10:30hrs to 16:00hrs and there will be an on site café offering refreshments and light lunches.

Accucraft retail open for business!

Following the closure of Garden Railway Centres in Cheltenham, we have been made aware that many of you are struggling to find Accucraft products in the West Midlands and Welsh Marches.  In consequence we are delighted to say that we will be opening our unit in Pontrilas for retail sales.  Although our premises may not be ideal our location in the Welsh Marches is most picturesque and worth a drive out.  Please note that we keep office hours, 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and we are not open at the weekend (we will publish details of office closures on this website).  It is also worth ‘phoning/emailing us to check whether we have a specific item in stock before you visit us – 01981 241380 or info@accucraft.uk.com

National Garden Railway Show

It was good to see so many of you at Peterborough this year.  We were delighted to be joined by Bing and Channing Cheng from Accucraft (US) who enjoyed talking to people about the stunning 1:20.3 C-25 we were displaying on our stand.

Yeo, Exe & Taw due in May

We will be delivering the Lynton & Barnstaple Manning Wardles to dealers in two lots during May.  From our own records we only have a handful that are not pre-sold so be sure you have one on order if you’d like one!

Two new Mk1 coaches unveiled at Peterborough

At the National Garden Railway Show we were able to unveil the first samples of the new Mk1 coaches, the FK (First Corridor) and the SO (Second Open), both of which were received with enthusiasm. The coaches will, in future, be fitted with Accucraft’s new buckeye coupling with pin release mechanism.  All the Mk1 will be back in stock at your local dealer in June, still at the amazing price of just £250.00 each!

7/8ths” Decauvilles available again!

We have a limited number of red and black Decauvilles now available.  These new models have been retro-fitted with the under-cab gas tanks and new, larger burners.  Each locomotive has been tested following the work to fit the tank and are only obtainable direct from us at the original UK RRP of £1695.00

Tracks to the Trenches – Apedale Railway 13th – 15th July

The “Tracks to the Trenches” 2018 event marks the finalé of the Moseley Railway Trust’s First World War centenary commemorations – highlighting the tremendous expansion of the British light railways, which were used right up until the Armistice in 1918.

In 2014 and 2016 the Apedale Valley Light Railway hosted major First World War centenary events – marking 100 years since the start of the “War to end all Wars”. These highly acclaimed centenary events focused on the often overlooked areas of Transport and Logistics used by all combatants during the conflict. This was the narrow gauge light railways’ finest hour.  You can find full details here.  This will be the first chance many folk have to see a working WD Hunslet 4-6-0T both full size (No. 1215) and 16mm scale (Accucraft!).

Accucraft April News

It’s show time!  We ‘d like to share some of the dates when we are attending shows this year with you, including our own open day and clearance sale on 16th June.  It’s hard to believe that Large Scale Model Rail has already been and gone (and what a memorable weekend that was!) but we hope to see as many of you as possible at shows around the country during the rest of 2018.

The National Garden Railway Show – Peterborough 7th April

Probably the biggest and best event of its kind in the UK. Raffle, competitions, junior activities, member to member sales, landmarks display. You can find full details here.

Llanfair Garden Railway Show – Llanfair Caerenion 1st – 2nd September

We will be attending the Llanfair show at the beginning of September where we will be unveiling some of our plans for new production in 2019.  As usual the weekend coincides with the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway Gala which makes it a doubly worthwhile trip out!  The W&LLR Gala is their biggest event of the year, now over three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Every operating engine will be in use.  There will be traction engines, steam cars and lorries, a model railway exhibition, demonstrations and trade stands, and a shuttle bus to the garden railway show up the hill at Llanfair High School.  You can find more details here.

Accucraft March News

Even though it is March, Spring seems a long way off!  No matter, the show season is here and we will be attending Large Scale Model Rail this weekend and the National Garden Railway Show in April – we look forward to seeing you at one or the other or both!

The ‘E’ Vans have landed!

We are delighted to say that the ‘E’ Vans have arrived and been sent to our dealers.  The ‘E’ vans were four-wheeled brake and luggage vans fitted with lookout duckets, but otherwise entirely sealed with only two drop-sash windows at the guard’s door. None of these vans survive today, and they were effectively made redundant when later passenger coaches had their own braking systems. The Manx Northern Railway owned a pair of similar vans for use with the ‘N’ class carriages, but these seem to have been replaced in the 1890s and then used for goods traffic until they were scrapped in the 1920.

The roof is removable if required for customers to install their own interior detail, for example, or lighting.  An additional set of 32mm wheels is also provided.  Although the models are 1:20.3 scale they look well with 1:19 scale equipment and are probably larger than the equivalent scale models of Talyllyn coaches!  You can see full details and more images here.  UK RRP £80.00.

Accucraft February News

Victory!  As we start 2018, the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War One, what could be more appropriate than to commemorate it with the Railways Operating Division ‘Victory’?  The initial delivery of these outstanding little Gauge 1 locomotives has now been made to dealer and we only have a handful left.

1:32 Kerr Stuart ‘Victory’ 0-6-0T

Although the class only amounted to ten members, the Kerr Stuart ‘Victory’ class ended up scattered about Britain following their disposal by the R.O.D. at the end of World War 1.  Built in 1917 for the Inland Waterways & Docks Department the majority saw service at various southern ports and were intended to be operated in France if required.  Substantial boilers and large cylinders ensured they had plenty of ‘grunt’ for lifting boat trains off the quay and made them ideal candidates for industrial use after the end of hostilities.

East Kent No. 4 anyone?  Kent Garden Railways can help!

Andy Cottenham at Kent Garden Railways has commissioned a small number of twin safety valve ‘Victories’ in Ashford green, allowing the purchaser to finish the locomotive as East Kent Railway No.4 (which carried at least two lining designs while on that railway) or even as a Southern Railway locomotive.  To accompany this variation Andy has also asked for a run of our RCH wagons in Tilmanstone Colliery livery – the mine was served by the EKR.  Both these versions will be available with the next run of their respective models later this year.  To make a reservation or express an interest, contact Kent Garden Railways.

More 1:32 Scale RCH Private Owner wagons

While on the subject of private owner wagons, we are pleased to announce that we will be increasing the range of our RCH wagons with the addition of those belonging to The Oldham Corporation Gas Department and Hereford Coal company as well as re-running ‘Oxcroft’ with the next batch.  Contact your local retailer to make a reservation for these colourful wagons.

1:32 Scale British Railways 16 ton mineral wagons

We understand that initial deliveries of the Aster/Accucraft 9F are now taking place and from all accounts they are being very well received.  However, we don’t want your newly acquired 2-10-0 to feel lonely, so how about a nice long rake of 16 ton mineral wagons to accompany it?  These steel bodied wagons formed the backbone of the ‘Windcutters’ operated with such success on the Great Central main line in British Railways days and our models are available from your local retailer now.

Accucraft December News

May we wish everyone a Happy Christmas and pleasant New Year.  Although we had hoped to have taken delivery of the 1:32 scale Kerr Stuart ‘Victories’ before Christmas, shipping schedules mean that they will turn up at the end of December and will be available in the first half of January.  We have pre-sold almost all the initial batch so if you would like one we suggest you contact your local dealer as soon as possible.

Although six did, indeed, go to colliery systems, two were sold to the Alexandra Docks Railway, one to the Brecon & Merthyr Railway and one to the light railway empire of Colonel Stephens at the East Kent Railway.  This ensured that members of the class started to receive modifications, the Lambton, Hetton & Joicey Colliery example having its cab cut down (in common with all L.H. & J.C. locos) while those that were absorbed into the Great Western Railway gained Swindon boiler fittings.  Three ‘main line’ examples all ended up being allocated British Railways numbers in 1948 and two of them continued in service with B.R. for some time while some of the colliery engines were still at work in the late ‘60s.  You can see full details of these ideal starter locomotives here – still just £1275.00 including VAT and UK warranty.

Z1 and Z2 Chopper Couplings

Although our chopper couplings seem to be the ‘go to’ coupling in 1:19 and 1:20.3 scales we don’t believe in standing still!  We have therefore revised and updated the couplings, fitting a ‘bob weight’ to facilitate uncoupling.  The new coupling will still carry the Z1 (square head) and Z2 (round head) classifications but will now cost £7.50 per pair including VAT.  The new couplings are fully compatible with the original ones.

1:32 scale J-Class – still available and with a bonus!

The stunning looking Norfolk & Western J-Class 4-8-4 is still available for a bargain £5,950.00 but the deal gets even better since you can add a N&W streamline car set for just another £2000.00 – that’s £7,950.00 for a complete Norfolk & Western train including VAT, P&P and UK warranty!  You can see the full specification for this locomotive (with video) here.

AL97-371-PKG N&W J-class #611 4-8-4, Alcohol Fired w/ Passenger 6 car set

1:20.3 ‘Ruby’ #1 and #2 0-4-0T

The ever popular ‘Rubys’ are now back in stock in both black as #1 or red as #2. These natty little engines are ideal starter locos and are also available as a kit or a complete starter train set with a circle of 2’ radius track, two Iron Mountain coal cars and a bottle of oil.

AC77-010 Ruby #1 Black / AC77-012N Ruby #2 Red – £595.00
AC77-011 Ruby #1 Black (kit) / AC77-013 Ruby #2 Red (kit) – £555.00
PKG01 Ruby #1 Black (set) / PKG02 Ruby #2 Red (set) – £755.00

Last call for Welshpool & Llanfair coaches!

The final batch of Welshpool & Llanfair coaches have now been sent out to dealers.  We have no plans to run these again and the stock is going fast.  If you don’t want to miss out we suggest you make sure you order yours before Christmas.

Accucraft November News

Bargains, bonus items and brand new stock!  It’s all happening in November at Accucraft; we bring you news from the U.S. plus shipping updates as well and don’t forget our end of season track and stock sale.

1:20.3 scale C-25 D&RGW 2-8-0 – coal fired

Now in stock!  These superb coal-fired models will be a limited run so don’t miss out!  The first four ordered from us will be supplied with a free Jackson & Sharp coach, D&RGW Yellow Single Strip.

This locomotive, a 2-8-0 or Consolidation type, originally existed as # 103 of the Crystal River Railroad, a narrow gauge line located in the Elk Mountains of central Colorado. It was built in 1903 as C/N 21757 of the Baldwin Locomotive Works, had 33” drivers, 18×20” cylinders, and a tractive effort just short of 25,000 pounds. It was a standard Baldwin design, and other narrow gauge locos of this size and type were built for railroads in the Western Hemisphere.

The D&RG purchased this locomotive from the Crystal River in 1916, numbered it # 432, this number subsequently being changed in 1924 to # 375. The C-25 was affectionately known as the “Baby Mudhen” because its pulling power was close to that of the K-27 class, those engines being known as “Mudhens”. Sadly, on June 21, 1949 the one and only C-25 on the D&RGW was scrapped at Alamosa, Colorado.  You can see the full specification here. The UK RRP is £5,250.00 including VAT, P&P and UK warranty – ‘phone us today!
